When Fresh Gets Dirty. “Never Lose”

NeverLose_ART

We are getting your week started off right! Here at the BASS BLOG, we are excited for the up coming release “I keep It Moving” by NatasK, his first full length album release.   As NatasK has been digging deep into the realm of Bass, Broken Beats and a variety of tempos and Speeds, NatasK has started to find an added level in his production adding some dynamic collaborations with some amazing vocalists. One of these vocalists being LAKE CITY FRESH.  a native of Erie Pennsylvania.  Their Featured Track “Never Lose”  will surly get your attention.  With choice drums, Punchy bass, and a driving rhythm and melody that LAKE CITY FRESH is really able to articulate upon.

FRESHartBLOG

Inspired by the RnB greats like Luther Vandross, Lenny Cooke, Al B Sure, R. Kelly, Jagged Edge, Tank, and Michael Jackson,  it was apparent that Lake City Fresh was destined to write music from an early age with over 250 songs written by the young age of 13.  With the Name Lake City Fresh,  a nickname given to him by his brother for his desire to always be clean, we finally have an up close look into this vocalists come up.   After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP)   Lake city Fresh found himself back in his home town of Erie PA, and after some hard work and exploration of sounds he released his first mixtape… “The Enlightenment”  to then be followed by now classics “More than Music” , “BayBreeze Music” and the most current Project “Presque Isle Boii.”   With a spark of a musical revolution and the forging of a new sound Fresh has been exploring multiple styles and genres, ultimately entering him into the Bass music spectrum with this Collaboration “Never Lose” with NatasK of the 814 Bass Crew, also an Erie Native.

PromoPIC1WIth the sucess of his mix tapes, Lake CityFresh Has been Artist of the Year in the Rock Erie Awards  of 2012 and 2013.  Lake City Fresh has dropped tracks with PA heavy weight BOAZ, as well as finding himself on Yo Gotti’s “Hard”.  Featured also by the likes of Un Kasa,  LCF recently opened for RnB greats H-Town.  From the west coast to the East Lake City Fresh has started to work with some of the top artists in the industry all while finding his own creative ways to excel his passion in singing.   Be on the Look out for more work from NatasK and Lake City Fresh on  NatasK’s up coming full length Album…. “I keep it Moving.”

Never Shook, New collaborations bring Good Things!

Erie PA has seen quite a change in its Underground Music scene over the last 10 years.    In the spring of 06  Producer, DJ and Founder of 814 Bass Crew“NATASK”   had found himself back in western PA, (Erie) with an opportunity, or blank canvas as there was a huge void in Electronic Music.  Right around the same time period there were also a whole new group of emerging MCs.   Both groups struggled to find an outlet, or a stage to present their talents within their Local city scape.   As time went on 814 BASS Crew was established and began hosting a variety of events featuring some of the most cutting edge DJs from around the world, all while slowly working the MC culture into these shows.   As this was all going down 2189 Skateboard shop Founder “Iggy” Imig, began a series of underground Hip Hop shows, also hosting Talent from all around the US…. as both scenes emerged, it was only natural that there would be some overlap and collaboration.  One of the current Hip Hop Acts that have been on the Up and up, hosting tracks with Veteran MCs from around the state Like BEEDIE and JOHN QUEST,  is HOLLAH HOUSE.   MACK BOYER, of the Hollah House Crew is now dropping this first Single with Producer and DJ, NATASK titled “Never Shook”.     With a choice break, Deep Bass and Sultry String arrangements,  have a Listen as Mack goes in with laments to his youth, and come up…. much like the scenes these two artists represent.

Taking Back the Under-Ground

10474159_700325560563_916011917_n

JULY 1st  2014  2 Step Tues: Features:  NATASK  814 Bass Crew,  Plasma Pool REC.

As the summer is getting under way, we here at the BASSBLOG wanted to spotlight a weekly event happening in the Mighty Steel City of Pittsburgh PA, that has taken a Strong arm approach at re surging the Underground Sounds of 2 Step and UK Garage.  Slowly becoming one of the most Dominant weekly events in the 412,  2 Step Tuesdays,  Dishes up some serious Heat.   We recently had a chance to Pick the Brain of  MIAA GLO RIGBY, the events Host and promoter and here is a little bit of what we found out.

Residents:  Eryn Evans, Syneater,  Hanna

1. How long has the event been going, and who are the founding members and residents?

“2-Step Tuesdays has been going since Jan 7, 2014. We’ve been through many venues but we are currently at Gus’s Cafe in the Lawrenceville neighborhood. My goal was to find residents already into the garage sound… I started this night because I was getting bored with the music at parties. It was all so mainstream and had that “dark & dirty” vibe…but mostly everyone played the same sound. I was always a house lover and a friend of mine when I started partying spun speed-garage. As I reconnected with those garage roots and would talk to others about it they would all say “Oh man I love garage but you never hear that stuff played!” If so many people wanted to hear it, why did no one play it? So I decided to change that. We had two weeklies in Pittsburgh end in the past two years and The city was definitely looking for the next big thing. I’ve personally never been someone who wants to DJ, i connect to music through dancing – and I wanted to go out and dance to the music I like! so I grabbed three of the best Djs I know, put them all in a room every Tuesday, throw in some drink specials, and 6 months later its still growing every week. I encourage all genres as long as it has a garage feel to it, break beats, real, authentic dubstep & grime, bass line, speed garage (which i affectionately call ‘hardcore for big kids’) We started out as a bi-weekly, that changed after about 3 weeks. At first it was also just my residents and a monthly guest, but that changed quickly as well when so many people wanted the chance to play. That is really what its all about for me. Getting these DJs, who you would never think would play garage music, to come out and throw down a set. They spend so much time digging through old and new stuff and then get infected. Its awesome when i go to parties now and someone we’ve had as a guest throws some 2-step or bass line in their set. And this new generation of EDM enthusiasts aren’t quite aware of the spectrum of music and I’m hoping by introducing people to it we can get it to revive with the next generation of DJs, although I have to say I don’t mind the underground.”

2. How do you feel your event impacts the Western PA EDM scene, and with such a Massive history of Broken Beats in Pittsburgh, How do you see this furthering the landscape for DJs and Producers currently?

Its crazy because a year ago everyone told me a garage night would never pick up. They’d laugh and say “No one plays that stuff because they don’t make it anymore.” or “its too hard to find.” Just because something doesn’t have its own beat port category or you can download the top 100 tracks doesn’t make it hard to find, it means you have to make a soul connection with the sound and really get into digging things up. That ends up being what everyone loves about it in the end.

In the highly competitive market of San Francisco’s thriving nightlife, DJs are forced to a higher standard of excellence and Miss Haze is nothing short of the best. Equipped with a whole lot of talent, she started Djing at the age of 15 and quickly became a skilled and respected tastemaker with an ear for electronic music. This triple threat DJ/MC/producer captivates people with her magnetic personality and vast knowledge of music. She is currently the bay area’s leading female DnB DJ, earning her residencies with Irie Cartel and Shelter, SF’s longest running DnB night. She threw her own successful night at Bass Cellar, making her an essential contributor to San Francisco’s Drum and Bass scene. Her continually growing catalog of remixes and original music spans several genres and her most recent EP “Smoke City,” out on Muopia Records, made it to #15 on Beatport’s top Drum and Bass charts. Collaborating with several artists from all around the country and upcoming releases on multiple labels, her production skills are in high demand. People stop and notice when this diva rocks the stage with her innate ability to tap into exactly the right vibe to mesmerize the crowd. Doing vocal performances with hard hitting artists such as Ill-esha, Freaky Flow, Wick-it the Instigator and the Widdler, (just to name a few) she rocks the mic with charismatic style, seductive melodies and a sassy flow. Most recently Miss Haze joined forces with Corrine, another hard-hitting bay area female DJ, to form the dynamic duo ‘BITCH PLZ!.’ Together they deliver a captivating stage show full of booty poppin’ basslines and sexy swag.

Always at the forefront of bass heavy music, she is an intrinsic part of San Francisco’s edm community. Whether it’s on the mic, from behind the DJ booth or in the studio making hits, Miss Haze owns it and throws down ill-tight sound wherever she goes.
