NatasK’s Debut Album Making Waves.

NatasK – I Keep It Moving (DÉBUT ALBUM REVIEW)

natask

I love music that’s fresh and I love artists that aren’t afraid to mix it up and come with something new. I’ve got the début album from Pennsylvania producer and bass fanatic NatasK and that’s exactly what he’s brought here. A high end production, ‘I Keep It Moving’ is a genre straddling collection of Electronic Music that encompasses the sounds and vibes of a whole spectrum of musical fashions. NatasK takes influence from House to Hip Hop, Drum & Bass and UK Garage to Dubstep and beyond and uses this combined acquired musical knowledge to superior effect.

The album opens with a touch of Eastern flair infused with Hip Hop and Electronica, a chilled tempo and a commanding big orchestral drum beat setting the track up, laced with the harmonising of vocalist Lake City Fresh. The intro setting the pace for what’s to come. As the album moves on, the rate is stepped up and the bass brought harder; really kicking the record into gear. ‘Closer’ again features vocals from Lake City Fresh as well as a colab from 814 Bass Crew associate Ghost Alive.

‘Lose It All’ again steps the album up a notch and is one of the stand out tracks of the album for me. Impeccably produced and brilliantly conceived, that Future Bass vibe standing strong, an almost tropical drum line and Lake City Fresh this time spitting fire before serenading the beat with perfectly delivered vocals. Supported by an ethereal but domineering synth chorus and a haunting piano line, the track firmly cements NatasK ability and scope as a top level producer.

We’re next hit with a Drumstep destroyer that holds the bass cannon to your head and demands you move; we’re more than happy to oblige! Toned out and grimy, the tempo rises slightly as the album leads perfectly into the dark and moody Drum & Bass track ‘The Voodoo Speaks’ and features the second colab on the album from Ghost Alive. Another exceptionally crafted track and another firm nod to the producer. ‘The Stringer’, a hyped up, syncopated explosion, pace quickened again with a touch of the classical ringing through at the half way mark of the album completes the uptempo trio.

‘Bone Shaker’ features the third and final colab from Ghost Alive and is a Junglist revivalist masterpiece. The track is a homage to a scene that is enjoying a resurgence on both sides of the Atlantic and is yet another testament to the skill of the production team. ‘Funk’ warps the mind with its barrage of punchy bass hits and minimalist twangy rhythm whilst ‘Space Hopper’s fantasy like beat takes the listeners ears to another dimension completely. The penultimate track on the album see’s NatasK bring out the big guns again with yet another highly accomplished track. The deep, tonal bass reverbing through the system as a frantic but on point beat leads the atmospheric synthesized chorus straight into your musical receptors creating a feeling of satisfaction and full on musicaly derived, bass-lined joy! The album finishes how it started, with the intro of ‘Wasted Time’ used as a backing beat for rapper Mack Boyer to unleash over.

The album is an easy listen. Not one track is a chore to listen to and the flow and course of the album walks the right path. The album fuses elements of a whole mass of different genres; Electro, Dubstep, House, Drum And Bass, UK Garage, Jungle, Hip Hop into one hugely exciting mix. natask2Each track is a pleasurable listening experience, each equipped with its own unique elements and original charm. The mood effortlessly shifts back and forth from joyous and upbeat to dark and brooding appeasing a whole range of emotions and feeling. It’s what music should do, and it does it right! For a début album, the level of production is at a near perfect level. The album is a very worthy listen to for all our bass addicts out there and is a outstanding introduction to a music maker who is truly worthy of your support!

Album: I Keep It Moving… #IKIM

The debut album “ I keep It Moving” from NatasK (814 Bass Crew) is an emotional plunge into the deep world of Electronic Music with influences from a wide variety, all expressed through Broken Beats, Bass, and Melodies that both drive a dance floor, as well as appeal to the every day listener. With deep roots in the DJ culture, spanning the last 16 years, as well as being the founding member of the 814 Bass Crew, this is one of the first looks at this up and coming producers personal take on the music that has been a big part of his life and Electronic music as a whole all while trying to create new paths and sounds to broaden the previously type casted molds of individual genres. With a range of Tempos and Speeds NatasK combines the sounds of Dubstep, Techno, Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Trap and UK Garage to grab the listener’s attention, and feel the mood and dynamic of each track. “I keep it Moving”, features the vocals of Lake City Fresh, and Mack Boyer of Hollah House as well as Production features from Ghost Alive also of the 814 Bass Crew. The 1st official single from the Album “Lose it All” is a Carnival style Dubstep song, featuring the powerful and inspirational Lyrics and Vocals from Lake City Fresh, and explains the metaphoric rise and come up of becoming a Man in a world seemingly hopeless at times, all in time with the choice broken breaks and Pulsing Baselines. After World wide Charting Success earlier in 2014 with EP single “Manowar” feat Akuma, NatasK is ready to deliver the driving energy that is his Live performances, and His production skills to the world stage.

Taking Back the Under-Ground

JULY 1st  2014  2 Step Tues: Features:  NATASK  814 Bass Crew,  Plasma Pool REC.

As the summer is getting under way, we here at the BASSBLOG wanted to spotlight a weekly event happening in the Mighty Steel City of Pittsburgh PA, that has taken a Strong arm approach at re surging the Underground Sounds of 2 Step and UK Garage.  Slowly becoming one of the most Dominant weekly events in the 412,  2 Step Tuesdays,  Dishes up some serious Heat.   We recently had a chance to Pick the Brain of  MIAA GLO RIGBY, the events Host and promoter and here is a little bit of what we found out.

Residents:  Eryn Evans, Syneater,  Hanna

1. How long has the event been going, and who are the founding members and residents?

“2-Step Tuesdays has been going since Jan 7, 2014. We’ve been through many venues but we are currently at Gus’s Cafe in the Lawrenceville neighborhood. My goal was to find residents already into the garage sound… I started this night because I was getting bored with the music at parties. It was all so mainstream and had that “dark & dirty” vibe…but mostly everyone played the same sound. I was always a house lover and a friend of mine when I started partying spun speed-garage. As I reconnected with those garage roots and would talk to others about it they would all say “Oh man I love garage but you never hear that stuff played!” If so many people wanted to hear it, why did no one play it? So I decided to change that. We had two weeklies in Pittsburgh end in the past two years and The city was definitely looking for the next big thing. I’ve personally never been someone who wants to DJ, i connect to music through dancing – and I wanted to go out and dance to the music I like! so I grabbed three of the best Djs I know, put them all in a room every Tuesday, throw in some drink specials, and 6 months later its still growing every week. I encourage all genres as long as it has a garage feel to it, break beats, real, authentic dubstep & grime, bass line, speed garage (which i affectionately call ‘hardcore for big kids’) We started out as a bi-weekly, that changed after about 3 weeks. At first it was also just my residents and a monthly guest, but that changed quickly as well when so many people wanted the chance to play. That is really what its all about for me. Getting these DJs, who you would never think would play garage music, to come out and throw down a set. They spend so much time digging through old and new stuff and then get infected. Its awesome when i go to parties now and someone we’ve had as a guest throws some 2-step or bass line in their set. And this new generation of EDM enthusiasts aren’t quite aware of the spectrum of music and I’m hoping by introducing people to it we can get it to revive with the next generation of DJs, although I have to say I don’t mind the underground.”

2. How do you feel your event impacts the Western PA EDM scene, and with such a Massive history of Broken Beats in Pittsburgh, How do you see this furthering the landscape for DJs and Producers currently?

Its crazy because a year ago everyone told me a garage night would never pick up. They’d laugh and say “No one plays that stuff because they don’t make it anymore.” or “its too hard to find.” Just because something doesn’t have its own beat port category or you can download the top 100 tracks doesn’t make it hard to find, it means you have to make a soul connection with the sound and really get into digging things up. That ends up being what everyone loves about it in the end.
